Planned Respite
UnitingCare Community Options provides planned respite options for the carers of older people, and for the carers of people with disabilities (aged 45-65) through the National Respite for Carers program.
The National Respite for Carers Program (NRCP) is part of the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre and is funded by the Commonwealth Government to provide planned support to families and the people they care for in settings such as homes, day centres, with host families and in residential overnight cottages.
If you would like to find out more about planned respite services in your area, please call our Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre team on free call 1800 059 059* (calls from mobiles will be charged at normal rates). Our staff are ready to provide information about respite services. They can provide brokerage funds to help you access respite, and they can spend time with you helping you to plan and prepare for situations in which you may need assistance. And if they can't help directly, they may be able to suggest other appropriate options for you.
The Eastern Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres is one of a number of Centres run throughout Australia, all of which aim to help carers in their roles by providing a way to support carers when they need to take a break. They do this by acting as a single contact point for information needed by carers and by organising, purchasing, or managing respite care assistance packages for carers.
Some examples of the types of respite care that can be accessed through the NRCP program include:
- in-home respite care;
- support workers to assist you when you are taking a break away from home; and
- residential respite care.
One of the advantages of the National Respite for Carers Program is that because our staff work closely with other Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre staff and our partnership workers, they are able to identify and provide access to a wide range of support options and can assist you in accessing other types of services.
